Orange Week 2013

Orange week
It’s  day 4 and the temperature is heating up and so is the competition. No clear winners yet although the head comp organiser (Ridgy) is talking up the potential for a Grand Prix race as we have several gliders with very similar handicaps.  Nobody has yet taken on the challenge of flying in the Fresh Class although in the end the winner of Orange week could come from this class as the least points can be won by flying in this grade.

A good contingent of pilots have come up from Bacchus Marsh and we have five teams of two pilots in the teams challenge.
Beaufort have enough pilots for two teams – Beaufort Beginners – Beaufort Leftovers
Bacchus All-stars
Just Snoring from Horsham who co-opted another Polish glider a Foka 5 to the team this was a good move because being a tree class of gliding gains a point advantage in handicaps
Waikerie Willies.

John Hudson gives us a safety briefing each morning. Jean is doing a stirling job providing over filling meals in the evening; maybe I should go easy on the seconds. Winners get a orange, Second 2, third place 3. Weather and tasks setters (Bill & Hayden) will be challenged by the pending weather patterns for the rest of the week with Wednesday looking like a boomer.

Many of the flights are going up on the OLC and scoring is being done on line with the handicaps being deducted by John Ridge – (ie. 10% for water or deduct a point if you are a wood and fabric glider; theoretically could win a day and score a zero, etc. etc)
Keith Willis in ZAW was last reported at 11,000 feet. We should get some very fast speeds today for a 2 hour AAT. High cloud prevented an early start so comps task setter opted for task B.
Looks like another terrific day Wednesday with a front coming through Thursday or Friday. Will try for another post on Recent News later on in the week.
