The sky turned to cu. and went blue late in the day.

The finish gaggle at 4pm mixed the sky with a visiting tinnie carrying out circuits & bumps before departing.

Day 2
Monday, strong south-west winds; initially with complete overcast.

Launching was delayed until the local cloudscape began to break.
1.5 hr time interval set.
11 competitors flew

The day was chancy, with results generally in line with wingspan.
Reflecting the ability to punch into wind across sink areas
within the apparent cloudstreets.
Some pilots found sink directly below the sailplane above them climbing away.
Thus several bombed back on the airfield early in their flights
either before starting or before reaching a designated turnpoint.

Longest distance for the day by Bernhard Eckey & John Wheatcroft
in the ASH25;
Phil Ritchie flying the DG200 next furthest,
with Peter Robinson (Nimbus 2), Cath Conway (Ventus)
and Bruce Tuncks (Mosquito) not far behind.
Contest Director Emilis landed out 7km from home after an
adventurous attempt to go well upwind under full overcast (doh !)

Much hilarity in the bar with the days tall stories.
We are hoping for a regular racing day in more normal weather conditions tomorrow

As there were not the required numbers of gliders to make numerous classes the competition is being competed as a one class, Club class handicap event. The handicap range is from the ASH 25 at 0.80 to the PW5 at 1.18.

Day 1
Saturday 1 December

After a Friday where cu built to 7000', competitors were
hopeful of a good day.
Cirrus forecast to arrive in the contest area late in the day arrived during briefing.
A 2 hour POST task was set.
After launch pilots found weak conditions, depending on local warm spots shining through the cirrus overcast.
3 pilots went on task. the rest were shot down locally.

By the end of the day everyone was home,
Peter Robinson (Nimbus 2) flew 90 km for 79km handicapped,
Craig Vinall flew 39km in the Hornet (handicap 1.00)
Andrew Wright by staying with local turnpoints managed 11km and was shot down by the weather onto the airfield.

Day 2
cancelled at briefing with
strong winds forecast and a thick ground level inversion;
occasional local thunderstorms.
