August 16 Weekend

The mid-August weekend at Waikerie was cold and showery.

Unfortunately, there hasnt been enough rain to serve any useful purpose – although perhaps we should be grateful for the little dribs & drabs which have occurred.

A smalll group flew on Saturday, with Bill Mudge the Instructor and David Schenke in the Tug. Bill flew a few passengers, David Lawley and Peter Paine flew the LS4 and Phill Hollick had his Annual Checkflight.

With Greg Jackson, we installed a new bench for the handbasins in the ladies toilet. The handbasins will be installed soon. Greg, Peter Paine and Phill Hollick manned the paint brushes again – progressing the painting in both the mens and ladies toilets, and the western enterance to the Clubrooms.

We had a couple of visitors drop in during the weekend, Jack Mattinson (who is a 1st cousin once removed of Jock Barratt and second cousing to Rommily, Chris and Elspeth) a member of the Bordertown Gliding Club. Jack called in to have a look at the Pelican.

On Sunday, Bob Burnett-Reid called in. Bob was, in years passed, a member of the Adelaide Soaring Club and the Tug Master there.

At the time of writing, the AS K21 is in Adelaide. The unloading is now scheduled for 0900 Hrs, Wednesday 20th August, at the Schenker Depot, corner of Frederick Rd and Schenker rd, Royal Park. The plan is to unpack the container and take the gliders to Waikerie for the inspections to be completed to allow the gliders to be flown. On this basis, there is very likely to be flying at Waikerie again next weekend.
